Toronto FC is taking a page from the Blue Jays with its choice of theme music this season.

This week, the perennially underachieving MLS team said its song in 2015 will be “Love Me Again” by English soul singer John Newman.

Turns out the Blue Jays used the same music in an Opening Day promo in 2014.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment said it knew of the Jays’ use of the song. The TFC commercials will air online starting this weekend and move to television at a later date.

The refrain to the catchy song, which debuted at No. 1 in Britain in 2013, is “I need to know now, know now. Can you love me again?”

“We think this is very appropriate as to the message we’re trying to create with our fans, which is ‘OK, we get it. We screwed it up and we’ve gone eight years (losing). But can you find within yourself to love us one more time because we think we have it right,”‘ MLSE president and CEO Tim Leiweke said this week.

The choice of song, perhaps, says more about how things have been going for Toronto teams recently.

Toronto FC had a disappointing 11-15-8 record last season, missing the playoffs for the eighth straight year despite spending millions on England striker Jermain Defoe.

The Blue Jays went a disappointing 74-88 in 2013, finishing fifth in the American League East, despite loading up on off-season talent like R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle and Melky Cabrera.

Newman’s song could find a new home next season with the slumping Maple Leafs.
