Grade 3 student chased by stranger near north Edmonton school

EDMONTON — Police are investigating after a suspicious incident on Monday involving a student at St. Timothy Catholic School.

“One of our Grade 3 students was coming back to school after lunch when he was approached by a green truck. One of the men apparently got out of the truck and chased the child,” wrote Edmonton Catholic School spokesperson Lori Nagy in a letter to parents.

“The boy ran to the school and police were called and are investigating.”

Two men were reportedly in the truck, which is described as “an older model (possibly 2000) dark green Ford Ranger. The truck may have a broken or missing rear cab window and it may sit lower to the ground than a typical vehicle.”

Parents are urged to call police immediately if they see a vehicle matching this description.

“The safety of our students is always our first priority,” Nagy added.

“Please use this as an opportunity to talk with your child and emphasize the importance of being alert and aware when out in the community. Children should walk to and from school with a friend, if possible.”
