TORONTO – Super Bowl XLIX is officially the biggest Super Bowl game in Twitter history, thanks to its dramatic ending. The game – which saw the New England Patriots take the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 – garnered over 28.4 million tweets around the world Sunday.
According to Twitter, #SB49 was the most tweeted Super Bowl ever, surpassing last year’s game which generated 24.9 million tweets.

But it was Malcolm Butler’s unexpected interception of a pass by the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson with 20 seconds left in the game that stole the spotlight online. The game-changing moment generated over 395,000 tweets per minute (TPM).
Katy Perry’s halftime show came in third place for the most tweeted-about moments of the show.
The “Roar” singer garnered 284,000 TPM during her halftime performance, which featured six of her biggest hits, four different costumes, balloons, digital projections and appearances by Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott.

But it was the dancing sharks that accompanied Perry during her hit “California Girls” that stole the show.
Her costume choices, however, weren’t that popular.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was the most mentioned player of the game and deservingly so – Sunday’s victory marks Brady’s fourth Super Bowl win. That’s more than any other quarterback in the league.
