TORONTO — Lenny, a tiger and flares, oh my!
Katy Perry scored Sunday night with a halftime performance at Super Bowl XLIX that featured six of her biggest hits, four different costumes, balloons, digital projections and appearances by Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott.
The 30-year-old pop star kicked things off by riding onto the field atop a giant tiger to the tune of “Roar.” The golden tiger was operated by puppeteers dressed in all-black.
Perry then performed “Dark Horse” backed by robot-like dancers before joining Kravitz for a rocking rendition of her breakthrough hit “I Kissed a Girl.”
A quick change of costume (all were designed by Moschino’s Jeremy Scott) and Perry was dancing with sharks and beach balls to “Teenage Dream” followed by “California Gurls.”

Missy Elliott then appeared with a medley of her hits “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It” – giving Perry just enough time to slip into an oversized bedazzled jacket.
The halftime spectacular ended with “Firework,” which Perry sang while strapped onto a shooting star that floated over the field as fireworks lit up the sky above the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Perry’s show was slick, wardrobe-malfunction-free, and mostly live (she admitted last week parts of her performance would be lip-synched). It earned wild cheers from spectators and a lot of raves on social media.
Among the famous faces in the crowd were Paul McCartney, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Mark Wahlberg and Kanye West.
Sunday’s big game began with John Legend performing “America the Beautiful” and Broadway star Idina Menzel singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
