Parts of downtown Vancouver without power after car crashes into pole

About 2000 customers are without power and there are long delays on the Georgia Viaducts after a car crashed into a pole on Prior Street this afternoon, knocking down several wires and trapping a man in his overturned vehicle for an hour.

It happened just before 4:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Prior Street. The man inside the vehicle was stuck for quite a while, but he was eventually removed by emergency personnel and is in stable condition.

“Drivers can expect traffic delays on the viaduct as emergency crews respond to the collision and police conduct their investigation,” warns Vancouver Cst. Randy Fincham.

Much of Gastown, the Downtown Eastside and Chinatown is without power as a result of the crash. BC Hydro expects power to be restored by 6:30 p.m.
