WINNIPEG — The new cougar cub at the Assiniboine Park Zoo was officially named Friday morning.
After a week-long poll on the zoo’s Facebook page that saw a total of 771 votes it was decided that Teeka was the right name for the four month old cub. 238 people voted for the name in reference to her golden brown coat.
Teeka arrived in Winnipeg in December from the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. She was orphaned and struggling to survive on her own in the wild when she was rescued. Since arriving at the zoo she’s adapted to her surroundings and is in excellent health.
