Man shoots and kills friend while acting out rap lyrics

A 22-year-old man is being held on manslaughter charges in Merritt Island, Florida after he accidentally shot and killed his friend.

According to the Sherriff’s Office, Rodney Patrick was acting out the lyrics to Waka Flocka Flame’s 2010 song “Bustin’ At Em” while watching the music video.

The video features CGI bullets flying around the rap star and repeatedly plays gunshot sounds.

Deputies said Patrick shot his 17-year-old friend Douglas Winslow, although he initially told 911 dispatches Winslow had shot himself.

“He wanted to see it,” said Patrick in the 911 call. “I didn’t know it was loaded and he shot himself in the head.”

Prosecutor Gary Beatty told WESH that police found the gun hidden when they searched Patrick’s home, which is inconsistent with a self-inflicted wound.

Patrick is being held without bond and faces charges including tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance.
