A 54-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a robbery in a home in Vancouver’s west side in mid-January.
John Edward Barker has been charged with possession of stolen property. According to the Vancouver Police Department, a series of three incidents happened starting on the afternoon of Jan. 15 when a man knocked on the door of a west side home and asked the 84-year-old homeowner for bus fare. The homeowner, who believed the man was a gardener in the area, gave him the money.
The man returned the next day and requested $40 for another problem associated with his car and again, the homeowner complied. On Jan. 17, the man returned a third time and again asked for money. After the elderly homeowner denied the man’s request, he followed the victim inside and took his wallet.
A struggle occurred between the two and the victim received several cuts and large bruises to his hand and torso.
Police were able to find the suspect, who was arrested and charged.
Barker has been released from police custody until his next court appearance on Mar. 26.
