Ex-employee claims $25,000 from Downtown Penticton Association

PENTICTON — The former manager of Penticton’s Community Market is suing for wrongful dismissal.

Laurel Burnham was fired in October by the board of the Downtown Penticton Association which oversees the market.

In court documents, Burnham claims she has suffered “stress, anxiety, humiliation, embarrassment and financial distress” because of her alleged wrongful termination.

The legal notice does not specify why Burnham was fired but claims it was “without just cause and without reasonable notice.”

Burnham is seeking $25,000 compensation.

“I cannot comment because of the litigation,” says DPA Executive Director Kerri Milton. “There will be statement issued at some point, but until then, I cannot say anything.”

The DPA has not yet filed a response to the allegations.
