UPDATE: Flight delays in the Northeast have small impact on YVR

UPDATE: YVR says their operations are normal with only a couple cancellations due to weather out East.

Those flying out or picking up family and friends are advised to check with their airlines for the most up-to-date flight information well before their scheduled departure or arrival time.

While thousands of flights heading to the northeast have been cancelled or delayed across North America as people brace for a massive snowstorm hitting the East Coast, in Vancouver only a couple of flights have been cancelled — so far.

Air Canada issued a travel alert this afternoon that all of their flights from Canada to the Northeast of the United States will be cancelled tomorrow. The airline went on to say anyone flying tomorrow should check the status of their flights prior to leaving for the airport. If needed, customers can re-book their flights without penalty.

From Vancouver International Airport (YVR), Air Canada operates one daily non-stop flight to Newark, NJ and that flight is cancelled today and tomorrow. The airline will review operations for Wednesday and resuming the flight will depend upon weather and airport conditions in the Northeast.

International hubs impacted in the Northeast include Boston, New York and Philadelphia with more than 3,000 flights cancelled today and 4,000 flights already cancelled for tomorrow.

According to YVR officials, the ripple effect of today’s melee has impacted the airport a small amount with only two flights being cancelled earlier today.

Regardless, travel experts are advising travellers to go to the YVR website and check their flight’s status before heading to the airport.
