Warm weather causes closures at The Forks

Winnipeggers headed outdoors Friday, soaking up the sun and enjoying warm spring like temperatures.

“It’s the best, it’s the best,” one Winnipegger said.

“It’s beautiful, its fantastic, really enjoying the weather, ya I’m very surprised its +4, +5,” another explained.

The mercury rose Friday to 4 degrees celcius, average for this time of the year, a high of -13 degrees celcius.  And this time last year, we reached a high of -18.  That’s a 22 degree difference.

“Oh my goodness, past years have been in my eyes, terrible, very very cold and long and you know now this is a nice little break, its beautiful,” this former UK Resident turned Winnipegger said Friday.

“I think its beautiful, its a real blessing to have a day like this,” one lady told Global News.

But the warm up isn’t all its cracked up to be at The Forks.  Temperatures causing the Canopy Rink and the Bridge trail to close.  And late Friday afternoon, a tweet from The Forks, saying the Red River Mutual Trail was in poor condition, advising those on skates to stay off the trail.
