Converse soups up sneakers with Warhol designs

TORONTO — Converse is set to debut a collection of shoes featuring the iconic art of Andy Warhol.

The special Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers go on sale Feb. 7 at Converse stores in the U.S. and online.

The company partnered with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for the shoes, which will sell for between $35 and $95. A portion of proceeds will benefit the foundation.

Warhol, who died in 1987, did shoe designs in the ’50s and regularly incorporated shoes in his art.

His book Shoes, Shoes, Shoes features images of footwear from the artist’s work. “I decided that being a shoe salesman is a really sexy job,” Warhol wrote.

On Jan. 27, an auction in New York will feature Converse shoes with Warhol-inspired designs by contemporary artists.
