REGINA – The Crown Prosecutor is seeking an adult sentence for two 16-year-old boys charged with the first degree murder.
The teens made their second appearance in a crowded courtroom Wednesday morning for the death 16-year-old Hannah Leflar. The move, if approved, won’t affect the trial, but if convicted, the Crown wants to see the accused face the stiffer penalties typically associated with adult sentencing.
Last Monday, police were called to a home in the 400 block of Garnet Street North where officers found the girl’s body inside.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents the names of the accused from being released. With permission from the family, the name of the victim has been made public.

“It kind of hurts to think that maybe something this horrible could have happened to you. Knowing that something this horrible happened to someone your age,” said Tionna Ackerman, a student at Thom Collegiate, outside of court Wednesday.
Leflar attended Thom Collegiate and some of her classmates and friends have been making T-shirts and bracelets in her memory.
“With each knot you tie (in the bracelet), you make a wish and we’re hoping that people are going to make the wish about Hannah,” said Ackerman.
A couple of moms with daughters at Thom Collegiate helped organize a vigil on Monday, as well as a petition to have the two boys sentenced as adults.
“It just really hits close to home as a mom,” said Jeneen Winder. “You walk into Thom and it’s not the same. Kids are sad, upset, depressed, shocked, and wondering why.”
