EDMONTON – Drivers having trouble navigating increasingly narrow streets will get some relief next week. On Monday, Jan. 19, city crews will begin removing windrows from residential bus and collector routes.

“We’ve been doing overnight snow removal from around school loading zones during the last week, and now we’re going to get rid of windrows so we can widen the driving lanes,” says Roland Aitchison, acting director of roadway maintenance.

Targeted parking restrictions on residential bus and collector routes will run from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Parking will be allowed on evenings and weekends.

Temporary ‘no parking’ signs will be put up 24 hours in advance, and the city says strict enforcement via ticketing and towing will happen before crews bring in the heavy equipment needed to remove the windrows.

The city will only put the signs out where they plan to be working the next day, rather than enforce a city-wide parking ban. The windrow removal is expected to take about three weeks.
