Cougar walks into house of Ucluelet man while chasing his cat

WATCH: A Ucluelet man came face-to-face with a cougar in his own living room. Catherine Urquhart reports.

Ted Benson’s cat Mushka has likely used up one of her nine lives.

She was chased by a cougar around the Vancouver Island town of Ucluelet before Mushka ran into her owner’s house, only for the cougar to follow her in.

It came as a shock to Ted Benson, the human living in the home. But he says instincts set in, and he was able to scare the cougar away.

“It coiled back…I just got as loud as I could,” said Benson, who said he kept constant eye contact with the cougar after remembering advice loggers had given him.

He shut the door – and it stayed shut for some time.

“Slammed the door. Never opened it until 8 in the morning,” said Benson.

He reported the situation to B.C. Conservation officers, who destroyed one of the cougars several hours later.
