It was what made Kiss the four-year-old boxer stand out that nearly cut his life short.
Kiss has a neurological condition that makes him unable to pull his tongue back into his mouth.
“I don’t think there’s a name for it,” said owner Dawn Korres to 9 News. “It’s neurological. Something that affects the nerve in his head.”
Korres adopted Kiss from a shelter roughly six months ago and brought him back to her home in Boulder, Colorado. If she had come by any later in the year, she may have missed her chance to rescue the dog.
Kiss was set to be euthanized.
“It makes me want to tell everyone and tell the world, ‘Go out and rescue a pet today,’” Korres said.
To encourage others to adopt pets from shelters, Korres created accounts for Kiss on multiple social media platforms.
The quirky look that the rare condition gives Kiss has made him a sensation with thousands of online followers. He now even has his own social media coordinator.
“I knew that somehow he and I were going to team up and save animals,” said Korres.
