MONTREAL — It was like a modern-day urban nativity scene: two police officers delivering a baby in the family car.
“It was like a scene out of a movie,” Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant told Global News.
At about 3 a.m. on Christmas morning, two police officers were approached by a man near the corner of St-Laurent Blvd. and Gouin Blvd. West.
He told the officers that his wife and four-year-old son were in the car, and his wife was about to give birth.
“She was very advanced,” said Brabant.
The officers had no choice but to help the mother give birth to her baby in the vehicle.
Although eight weeks early, the 32-cm-long baby boy was born without any problems, and he and his mother were transferred to the Sacré-Coeur Hospital for follow-up care.
Brabant told Global News that he took two plush stuffed animals — police puppies — to the hospital as a gift to the baby boy and his brother.
“I really like doing interviews like this on Christmas Day,” he said with a laugh.
