KELOWNA, B.C. — Orchard Park Mall is buzzing with with last-minute shoppers. It turns out that Christmas Eve isn’t a bad day to shop for holiday gifts.
“Today is actually a slow day compared to the rest of the month,” says Quinta Service, mall guest services supervisor.
It may be relatively quiet, but most stores still look busy.
Jewelry shops are clearly the most crowded. For the most part, they’re filled with men hunting down something sparkly.
“Most people who work out of town live in Kelowna, and they’re just coming into town now. They want to make sure they have all the gifts for their families,” says Service.
But waiting until Christmas Eve to shop for gifts has its drawbacks: slim pickings.
“Lots of shoppers are disappointed that we’re sold out of our limited-edition products,” says Natalie Davis, a Lush Cosmetics employee.
As people rush home with their newly-purchased treasures, the mall prepares for the next big shopping event: Boxing Day.
