What was supposed to be a Christmas surprise turned out to be a nightmare for children at a daycare in Yubari, Japan.
The city is famous for its gourmet melons that often fetch up to thousands of dollars at auction.

In order to promote its popular produce, the city created a mascot: the Melon Bear.
Unlike other cute mascots from Japan, the Melon Bear is ferocious and is known for carelessly devouring the pricey fruit.
It’s no surprise, then, that the mascot frightened the children, who screamed and cried as the Melon Bear tried to bite off their heads.
However, some of the children calmed down after the mascot offered them small Christmas gifts.
