Machete wielding man arrested at gunpoint in Windsor

WINDSOR, Ont. – A man was arrested at gunpoint by Windsor police after reports of a suspect wielding a machete near the downtown area.

Police say the incident happened Thursday when a man carrying a machete demanded a cigarette from another man on Elliott Street West.

The second man backed away after seeing the machete and then called police.

Officers confronted the suspect in a backyard but police say the man refused to drop the machete.

After the officers drew their firearms, the suspect dropped his weapon and was arrested. No injuries were reported.

A 39-year-old Windsor man has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
