The holiday season is celebrated by people of all different stripes and Detroit’s Satanic Temple wants the state’s Capitol to reflect this.
“We would like to participate in a dialogue about religious pluralism in Michigan and the diversity of beliefs that celebrate the Holiday season,” said Jex Blackmore, head of the Satanic Temple’s Detroit chapter.

Blackmore told WILX that after the Temple heard about a Nativity scene possibly going up at the Capitol, they wanted to express their beliefs with their own display.
The statue is of a snake wrapped around the Satanic cross, the symbol used in modern Satanism, with an open book that says: The greatest gift is knowledge.
It will be on display for three nights from Dec. 21 to Dec. 23.
The plans for the Nativity display were dropped due to the set up and tear down requirements, but Senator Rick Jones has stepped in and says he will take care of the display himself.
