WINNIPEG – Destressing can be as easy as floating in a few centimetres of water.
At the Jellyfish Float Spa in Winnipeg, flotation therapy is used to help with chronic pain and stress.
Everyone from teenagers to seniors use the pods, which let the person float in skin-temperature water. The pods are isolated and provide a weightless feeling for those submerged.

“Basically floating is a way of achieving relaxation by laying down in about 10 inches of water, which is heated to skin temperature, and about 1,000 pounds of epsom salt in an enclosed tub, which is sound- and light-proof,” says Roi Jones, co-owner of Jellyfish Float Spa. “It’s kind of like a zero-gravity environment where you’re floating.”
Meer Janjua, the other co-owner of the spa, says there are benefits beyond destressing.
“There’s many health benefits that can be seen from this flotation,” says Janjua. “It’s actually called restricted environment stimulation treatment, and it’s been shown to decrease blood pressure, improve human performance, and overall relaxation and muscle stiffness.”
