OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says its new housing price index rose 0.1 per cent in October, following an identical rise in September.

On a year-over-year basis, the index rose 1.6 per cent in October.

The Vancouver metropolitan area was the top contributor to the October growth, with prices up 0.4 per cent over the previous month.

New housing prices also rose 0.4 per cent in the Hamilton region.

Prices fell 0.3 per cent in St. Catharines-Niagara and were down 0.2 per cent in Ottawa-Gatineau and Windsor.

Prices were unchanged in 10 of the 21 metropolitan areas surveyed.
