Ken Miller steps down

Ken Miller, head coach and vice-president of operations for the Saskatchewan Roughriders is preparing to say good-bye.

At Rider practice this afternoon, an emotional Miller announced he will step down from his positions with the organization at the end of the season.

“In my own mind when I took over this year it was in the vain as an interim head coach,” he said. Miller explained last year he decided that the 2011 season would be his last, and he is following through on that.

“It is great for me to work in a place where so many people care about the job I do,” he said at the announcement.

Miller’s role with the team will be missed and remembered.

“He’ll remain in our memories as a great coach, a great leader and a great person,” said Jim Hopson, Roughrider president and CEO.

Gene Makowsky, offensive linesmen, said he will remember Miller as one of the best coaches in history.

“My entire time here has been a dream,” Miller said.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are going into their last game of the season with a 5-12 record. Hopson said he will wait until the end of the season, before revealing his plan for the team’s future.
