WATCH: ‘Senseless’ vandalism of Vernon mural

VERNON – The Downtown Vernon Association is working on a fix after one of the city’s murals was targeted by a vandal. Someone used paint to scrawl swear words along the bottom of the mural on 29th St. which celebrates the Shuswap and Okanagan Railway.

“It is senseless destruction. It is really unfortunate,” says Lara Konkin the executive director of the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA). “We’ll do the best that we can to get it gone as quickly as possible.”

Konkin says because the vandalism appears to be fresh and the culprit seems to have used latex paint, it looks like they will be able to simply wash the graffiti off. The DVA has already called a company in to do the cleanup.

The DVA will be picking up the tab to have the mural restored. They don’t have an estimate yet for just how much that might cost.
