On this day in history, October 29, 1929, ‘Black Tuesday’ descended upon the New York Stock Exchange as prices collapsed amid panic selling.

Thousands of investors were wiped out and the 12-year-long ‘Great Depression’ began. As the day progressed and financial uncertainty fed on fear and rumours, investors sold at any price – almost 13 million shares were traded that day.
