WATCH: Hockey player sneaks 7 ‘meows’ into live interview

Clearly, Ray Kaunisto is a Super Troopers fan.

The Kalamazoo Wings forward is drawing national attention after giving an on-ice interview filled with randomly inserted cat-noises.

During the first period intermission of the November 28 ECHL game between the Wings and the Fort Wayne Komets, Kaunisto was interviewed on the ice by reporter Ben Garrod.

Evidently, Kaunisto decided meow was the time to break into “The Cat Game,” made famous by the 2001 comedy film Super Troopers.

In a well-known scene from the film, a police officer dares his partner to clandestinely slip ten “meows” into an exchange during a roadside traffic stop.

And while the officer in the film manages to hit the ten-meow mark, Kaunisto still manages a very respectable seven “meows” in forty seconds.

“Right meow we came out, hit a few guys quickly there. We got into the corners meow, and maybe [we can] pass the puck a couple more times down the neutral zone meow,” Kaunisto said. “Right meow, our focus is on banking as many points meow, but right meow, we’re doing a pretty good job coming out and getting the first goal.”

Throw in one more “meow” that the interviewer apparently missed, and you have your total of seven.

“I thought about doing it a little bit before and then I just figured just let it rip and see what happens,” Kaunisto said in an interview with MILive.

“I almost chickened out. I almost didn’t do it, but I kind of just went with it.”

And we’re glad he did, since meow we have one of the more amusing on-ice interviews in recent memory.

If you haven’t seen the original Super Troopers bit, you can watch it meow at the bottom of this post (check out the young Jim Gaffigan as the driver being pulled over).
