TORONTO – Move over Georgios Samaras, a stubborn billy goat is the latest soccer star to come from Greece.
Video has been released of a local game of ‘footy’ on the island of Crete that was interrupted multiple times over the weekend by the furry, four-legged, creature who insisted on attempting to play goalkeeper.
The goat, we’ll call him “Billy,” first made an appearance by standing between the posts.
After a few laughs, “Billy” was unwillingly led off the pitch only to return moments later and once again try to take the ‘keeper’s job.

“Billy” was eventually wrangled off the pitch for good by a spectator who held him by the horns.
In the world of high-priced ‘keepers like Peter Cech and Iker Casillas, or on a lesser scale Canadian national team ‘keeper Milan Borjan, it’s unclear if a European team might take a flyer on this aspiring player.
But, maybe, he could find a place under Major League Soccer’s tough salary cap.
There’s also still no word on whether or not Greece manager Kostas Tsanas will call up “Billy” for his first international cap.
But we’re crossing our fingers.
