TORONTO – Darwin the IKEA monkey has grown too big and needs a new home.
The Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary located in Sunderland, Ont. has been Darwin’s residence for nearly two years after an Ontario judge ruled that the IKEA monkey should not be returned to its owner.
Darwin made international headlines when he was found inside a Toronto IKEA store in December 2012 wearing a shearling coat.

The sanctuary has launched an online campaign to help raise $500,000 to relocate Darwin and several other primates to a new property with 50 acres of forested land.
“The property already houses 20 primates, who would stay and be put in the care of the sanctuary,” said the sanctuary in a media release. “Some of them would be ideal social friends for Darwin.”
The sanctuary says time is running out as the property may not be on sale much longer.
Those who wish to support Darwin’s move can make donations through the online fundraising website Indiegogo here.
