Billings was an avid hiker and a tip from someone who gave Billings directions to Lynn Headwaters on the North Shore led to an extensive search of the mountains, but with no success. He was slated to to go to the U.S. at the end of November, and return to England on Dec. 7, 2013.
North Shore Rescue has conducted numerous searches for Billings, putting in more than 2,000 hours looking for the young man. Before he passed away, North Shore Rescue leader Tim Jones spent hours of his own time looking for Billings.
