Video: It’s been almost two weeks since anyone has seen a 22-year-old British tourist and late this afternoon his father arrived at Vancouver to join the search. John Daly reports.
Vancouver police are continuing their efforts to find missing British tourist despite the search being called off on the North Shore mountains earlier this week.
Twenty-two-year-old Thomas Billings went missing on November 25 and was last seen in the 1400-block of East Broadway. He was supposed to go to the U.S. at the end of the month, and return to England on Dec. 7.
He was known to hike when he travelled. His family says he is a very experienced hiker and he has hiked all over the world.
Earlier this week, police say they received a tip from someone that they gave Billings directions to Lynn Headwaters in the back country.
On Wednesday, North Shore Rescue crews were searching the local mountains, but nothing was found.
Cst. Brian Montague with Vancouver police says they had a number of tips come in over the last week.
“We followed up on all of them. They either led up nowhere or led to what has nothing to do with the missing person.”
Montague says they are not giving up hope to find Billings at this point.

It is known Billings also spent time in Seattle, where he stayed with a woman he contacted on a popular travel website.
Rebecca Kindig says Billings told her he was planning to hike during his time in Metro Vancouver.
Billings’ father is arriving today from England to join in the search effort.
Billings is described as white, 5’7” tall, 160 lbs., with blonde short hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and grey military style pants.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Vancouver police.
“We want people to really think about where they were on November 25 some time in either late morning or early afternoon and look at the pictures of Mr. Billings and see if they recognize him,” says Montague.
