UPDATE: Searchers may continue looking for missing British tourist if new tips are received

UPDATE: One more helicopter, equipped with infrared, is sweeping areas northeast of the Grouse Grind in hopes of locating missing British tourist Thomas Billings.

Tim Jones of the North Shore Rescue says the 11 members of the crew, who were out searching for Billings in the dark, are currently making their way back to camp. Along with air and ground searches, the rescue groups set off parachute flares, hoping Billings would be located.

North Shore Rescue says it could resume the search but only if other tips are received.

The military’s 442 Squadron which is flying in from Comox, B.C. has been called in to help search for missing British tourist, 22-year-old Thomas Billings. The helicopter they’re coming in on has night-vision capabilities.

The search is on-going and currently, 11 crew members of the North Shore Search and Rescue are still searching for Billings.

In addition to the search, they will be setting off parachute flares, which are loud and explosive, with the hopes that Billings will be able to see or hear.

Vancouver Police say they have received several credible tips.

Search crews have been using air and land resources to look for the missing man, who has not been seen since the morning of Nov. 25.

Police say they received  a tip from someone that they gave Billings directions to Lynn Headwaters in the back country.

He was known to hike when he travelled. His family says he is a very experienced hiker and he has hiked all over the world.

He was last seen in the 1400-block of East Broadway on the morning of Nov. 25. He was supposed to go to the U.S. at the end of the month, and return to England on Dec. 7.

His father is still in the U.K. and says the last time he talked to his son was on Nov. 23.

Billings is 22 years old and described as white, 5’7” tall, 160 lbs., with blonde short hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and grey military style pants.
