Calgary radio station bans ‘Eye of the Tiger’ in support of Calgary Stampeders

CALGARY – A local radio station has pulled an iconic 80s rock anthem from their airwaves in support of the Calgary Stampeders.

The Stamps will be taking on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2014 Grey Cup, after beating the Edmonton Eskimos in Sunday’s West Division Final.

It will be the second time in three years that the Stampeders are heading to the Grey Cup.

In a show of support for the team, classic rock station Q107 has announced it won’t be playing “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor during the Jeff and Sarah Show, weekdays from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“We come into the studio at 4:45, headphones on, mic light comes on and we realize the very first song we’re playing right after the Stamps destroy Edmonton is ‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor,” said morning show host Sarah Crosbie. “We said we can’t put the word ‘tiger’ out there.”

Not everyone supports the ban; Crosbie said the station has received messages from Edmonton Eskimo and Saskatchewan Roughrider fans, demanding the song be reinstated.

“This song has never got so much love,” Crosbie added.

Q107 is owned by Corus Entertainment.
