Grey Cup bound? How much it could cost you

If you’re a Calgary Stampeders or Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan and want to party in person at Sunday’s Grey Cup in Vancouver, be prepared to shell out some big bucks. As of Monday afternoon, there were plenty of Grey Cup tickets available but flights and packages were going fast.

Here’s a breakdown of how much a trip to Vancouver and tickets to the big game could set you back.

Game tickets:

Ticket prices on Ticketmaster range between $175 and $445.

Direct flights leaving Friday and returning Monday:

WestJet is offering return flights between Calgary and Vancouver starting at $668.

Available return flights between Hamilton and Vancouver start at $1,467.

WestJet flights available between Toronto and Vancouver start at $1,187.

Air Canada is offering return flights between Toronto and Vancouver starting at $1,141.

Packages:

Offering everything from a three-night stay at a four-star hotel in Vancouver to tickets to the Hall of Fame party, Grey Cup packages offered by companies such as Dash Tours, Ticketsmart.biz and Flight Centre are a popular option. They start at around $1,700 and can go as high as $3,000. Some include airfare and Grey Cup game tickets while others do not, so check the options carefully before booking.

 Bottom line:

You’re looking at spending a minimum of $1,150 per person for a hotel, tickets and airfare if you are flying from Calgary, $1,650 if you are travelling from Hamilton or Toronto.

*Note: according to the hotel site trivago.ca, hotel prices in Vancouver have jumped 50 per cent for the Grey Cup weekend to an average of $209 a night.
