KORHANI home,
a Canadian home décor brand that’s been in business since 1902, is one of the lead
sponsors of LG Fashion Week. This collection presentation marks the company’s
second season at the tents.

Prior to becoming involved with LG Fashion Week, I’ve never heard of KORHANI home and missed
their debut on the runway back in March 2011, where they presented a show that
incorporated their rug designs into articles of clothing.

I missed that show, so when they appeared on the fashion week calendar again
this year I was interested in seeing how a home décor company who manufactures
rugs, cushions and furniture would fit into a fashion environment and present a
spring/summer 2012 collection.

On Wednesday evening, KORHANI home presented their sophomore collection to a
packed runway. There’s a lot to say about the company’s show for spring/summer
2012, but the key elements were entertainment and creativity, both achieved
very well.

KORHANI home’s runway show told a story from beginning to end; it started with
a silver plane flying over a vast desert, a belly dancer and models all
outfitted in rug designs that echoed garments worn by Bedouin tribesmen.

From there the audience was taken on a trip to various countries and times
periods; from a safari hunt in the Sub-Saharan plains of Africa, to the days of
Miami Vice mixed in with a dose of 1980s funk.

The standout features and garment created in KORHANI’s storyboard extravaganza
was the last segment of the runway show; an interpretation of Lewis Caroll’s
fairy tale, Alice in Wonderland. Here we were presented with a complete cast
of characters such as the Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Queen of
Hearts and her army of spades, and lastly Alice with a live white rabbit.
