A lawyer for Kinder Morgan has unintentionally inspired a new social media meme after arguing in court that the facial expressions of some anti-pipeline protesters could constitute assault.

Kinder Morgan’s lawyer, Bill Kaplan, was in B.C. Supreme Court on Wednesday when he presented several photos of protesters with facial expressions he called “malicious.”

Kinder Morgan is seeking an injunction against five protesters who are members of the group “Caretakers of Burnaby Mountain.” The group has been demonstrating at the pipeline survey site 24/7 since late September.

Earlier this week, a protester chained himself under a Kinder Morgan vehicle.
