REGINA – The City of Regina is considering making a few changes to the noise bylaw, including changing the penalty to a ticket instead of a court summons.
The new bylaw amendment will allow for bylaw officers – and police – to issue tickets to people for having a noisy party or barking dog, instead of the current situation where they would need to make a court appearance.
The proposed changes suggest a $100 fine for animal noise, and a $150 fine for a noisy party.
Under the current rules, a violator would go to court and a judge would decide their fine.
Also up for review – currently two people have to complain before a bylaw officer comes to your house. The proposed rules would allow just one noise complainant to trigger a visit from an officer.
The bylaw amendments will be discussed today at the Community and Protective Services Committee meeting, and will be voted on by city council at the November 24th council meeting.
