TORONTO – British actor Benedict Cumberbatch announced his engagement Wednesday to director and actress Sophie Hunter — and he did it the old school way.
The 38-year-old Sherlock star announced the forthcoming nuptials on page 57 of British newspaper The Times.
The engagement notice reads:
“Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter
The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London.”
Hunter, 36, and Cumberbatch have reportedly been dating for almost a year but weren’t seen together publically until June when the couple were photographed together at the French Open.
The announcement comes only weeks after another eligible bachelor tied the knot. Hollywood star, George Clooney, married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.
A wedding date was not given in the announcement.
