VANCOUVER – Homeowners across Metro Vancouver are cleaning up soggy basements after a night of heavy rain and flooding.

More than 86 millimetres of rain came down on North Vancouver Monday night. The downpour came rushing down the mountains, causing several creeks to jump their banks and flooding more than a dozen homes.

Fire officials say culverts overflowed in roughly five areas on the North Shore.

More than 10 homes were evacuated at one point while crews cleared out creeks and diverted water flow.

Residents in Maple Ridge are also dealing with flooding.
