UPDATE: Arson cause of Pleasant Hill house fires

SASKATOON – Police are looking for an arsonist after an overnight fire in Saskatoon involving three homes.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood just before 2 a.m.

Crews arrived to find a vacant home at 103 Avenue O South fully involved with the house at 101 Avenue O South in danger of igniting. Siding on the second home had already melted away from the intense heat and flames.

Three people in the second home were able to escape before firefighters arrived however they were not alerted by a working smoke alarm.

An aggressive exterior attack was started to knock down the flames between the two homes. Firefighters eventually entered the second home to put out a fire that had spread into a bedroom and hallway.

Once the exterior flames were controlled, crews entered the first home to extinguish the main body of the fire.

A third home at 105 Avenue O South sustained slight heat damage to its siding.

The fire was brought under control in 27 minutes.

There were no injuries reported.

Investigators determined the fire was started outside the house at 103 Avenue O South and moved to the interior before spreading to the exterior and interior of the second home.

Damage is pegged at $350,000.
