It was a tale that tugged at the heartstring of the Kelowna community.
Last week, a story was brought to the media about two autistic children, Wyatt Andruchow, 13, and Quinton Andruchow, 10, who had worked months to raise money to go to a special camp but had the fruits of their labour stolen.
The community responded by donating thousands of dollars to help the family pay for the cost of attending the camp.
But CHBC News started exploring and family’s story and found some troubling contradictions.
Watch the story above for the full report.
CHBC News has also learned that the father’s real name is Sean Starkes not Sean Andruchow.
He says he was using his wife’s last name because he wanted to protect his children from his rather lengthy criminal past, which includes charges of fraud, theft and possession of stolen property.
Those charges date back a number of years and since then, Starkes says he has cleaned up his life.
