The AMT announced that 171 parking spots out of 887 will be reserved for train users who are willing to pay $80 a month for a guaranteed spot.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

That leaves everyone else to fight for the remaining free parking.

“I’m standing on the platform having battled for the last space 40 minutes early than my train,” said Sandy Weigens, who takes the AMT.

“And I see all of these spaces sitting empty. I feel insulted.”

Many viewers pointed out that a train pass is already very expensive, and took to our social media sites to share frustrations.

Ginette Gagné – “[It] flies in the face of AMT riders who already pay good money for the service – parking should be free, not a cash grab. If the goal is to get more people to take public transportation, then this project is a fail.”

Ellison Chan – “It’s not a failure for them. An extra $80 a month for everyone taking the train is not a bad haul.”

Mylene Renamy – “[It’s] pretty much the same at every AMT parking. If you don’t take the first train, you don’t have any parking.”
