Hundreds of people are expected to gather for the regimental funeral for the 24-year-old, which will be held in his hometown of Hamilton, Ont.

In the days since the young soldier’s death, Canadians coast to coast stopped to pay their respects in numerous ways, including lining the Highway of Heroes as Cirillo made his final journey home.

Here in Alberta, memorials at local cenotaphs grew as people laid flowers as a sign of love and solidarity for the fallen soldier and his family.
