HALIFAX – RCMP in Nova Scotia are looking for a rare collection of medals that was stolen sometime in September.

According to police, the collection was taken from a property in Lake Echo, N.S. between Sept. 22-26.

There were approximately 50 medals and memorabilia in total, from various countries and military organizations, dating back to 1909. They belong to a collector, who keeps them in a trailer and often shows them at events.

RCMP declined to comment on the value of the stolen medals.

“Some of them are difficult to sell,” said Staff Sgt. Amy Matchett. “They’re marked and easy to identify.”

Police say the owner waited to report the medals stolen because he wanted to check and see if he could find them first.
