OAKVILLE, Ont. – Premier Dalton McGuinty is using electric cars to drive home his promise to create a new green energy economy in Ontario.
McGuinty started the final week of the election campaign in Oakville, where he toured Dana Holding, which produces battery cooling systems for hybrid and electric vehicles.

The province gave the American-based firm $2 million to create 102 new jobs and protect 53 existing positions at their research and development centre.
McGuinty says the Liberals want to make Ontario the No. 1 producer of electric vehicles in North America, a title the province already holds for conventional cars.
The Liberal leader will stop at a Magna plant in Brampton, which received nearly $50 million from the Ontario government to produce components for electric cars, before moving on to an Oktoberfest event in Kitchener.
McGuinty notes the Progressive Conservatives opposed the province’s move to give the auto sector billions of dollars in loans during the recent recession and says they would have cut loose thousands of workers.
