Welcome Hall Mission’s Thanksgiving dinner served up to hundreds

MONTREAL — You won’t find a better place to spend $2.97 in Montreal than on a meal for one of the residents at the Welcome Hall Mission.

Every year, the charity hosts its Thanksgiving dinner, where Montreal Alouettes’ players serve a complete Thanksgiving turkey dinner to more than 375 of the city’s homeless.

This year, Nicolas Boulay, Alex Brink, Jonathan Crompton, Chip Cox, Kyries Hebert, Jerrod Johnson, Tanner Marsh, Brandon Whitaker will offer up servings of delicious food.

As the players exchange their football uniforms and game faces for Welcome Hall Mission aprons and wide smiles, the dinner guests will be celebrating Calvillo’s big day, as his iconic #13 jersey was retired on Monday.

The director of the Welcome Hall Mission is no stranger to football: a former fullback with the Calgary Stampeders, Farell Duclair was part of 1998 Grey Cup-winning squad.

Last year, Duclair traded his passion for football with a passion for taking care of those who truly need a helping hand.

He never imagined that his career would bring him back to his hometown to join the battle to eradicate homelessness, but his never-give-up attitude, belief in community service and commitment to longterm solutions have convinced him that his new role is a calling, not a job.

As hunger and homelessness continue to be a problem in Montreal, the campaign for funding of meals at $2.97 has never been more important. You can make a donation here.
