It will be a Happy Thanksgiving for Saskatoon’s newest millionaires

Watch above: Saskatchewan’s newest millionaire returns to work

SASKATOON – A Saskatoon couple has 2.5 million more reasons to be thankful this Thanksgiving.

“The lady at the gas station when I cashed the thing, she was more excited than me; she was kind of freaking out,” said Lotto 6/49 winner Michel Fournier.

Fournier and his wife Bernadette are the provinces 119th million-dollar plus lottery winners.

“I told her (Bernadette) she’s going to have to quit her job, she said why, I gave her the ticket and said we won $2.5 million, so they started to believe me then,” said Fournier.

After buying Lotto 6/49 tickets for years, Michel finally hit the jackpot on the Sept. 17 draw.

“If I’m early enough sometimes I’ll pick my own, sometimes I’ll just take a Quick Pick, sometimes I’ll buy both or more. I got a good share invested there,” said Fournier.

Fournier bought his winning Quick Pick ticket at Shoppers Drug Mart on 22nd Street West. Like clockwork he is still playing the lottery and working.

After years of dreaming about what they would do if they ever won the lottery, it’s no longer a fantasy.

“Probably want to buy an acreage or something like that, the wife wants to go on a holiday and I told her I didn’t have no money.”

“So now he’s got no excuse,” said Bernadette. Michel agrees.

“I got no excuse no more.”

While they do plan to donate some money to charity, family is close to their heart.

“I do love my grand kids and always worry if anything were to happen,” said Bernadette.

Michel is still working on his happy dance but the reality of being Saskatoon’s newest millionaire is starting to set in.

The Fournier’s haven’t decided how to celebrate but plan to discuss it this weekend as their three sons and their families are home for Thanksgiving.

Michel Fournier shared the $5 million jackpot with another ticket purchased in Edmonton.
