Sharon Shepherd to run for Kelowna mayor

UPDATE: Shepherd has confirmed via twitter she will announce her intention to run for mayor Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Kelowna’s City Park.

Today at 12:30 pm in City Park, next to the Variety Children’s Park (water park and skate park), Sharon Shepherd will announce her intention to run for Mayor in the 2014 municipal election. Focusing on her extensive experience and numerous accomplishments while in office, Sharon believes she has the experience necessary to lead Kelowna over the next 4 years. With a number of new faces poised to join city council, and facing a number of crucial initiatives such as:  the revitalization of City Park; the development of the various town centers in Rutland, Glenmore and South Pandosy;  the protection of our lakefront;  the continued success of our business community;  the growth of our technology sector;  and the importance of our air and water quality, it is vital that we have leadership with the experience necessary to navigate the difficult waters ahead.

KELOWNA — There are strong indications Kelowna’s mayoral race could be heating up. Several sources say former mayor Sharon Shepherd will announce her candidacy Thursday afternoon.

When Global Okanagan asked Shepherd to confirm, she sent back a message saying she’ll be making an announcement at 12:30 p.m.

If she does enter the race she will join Colin Basran, Kelly Rowe, Sam Condy and Chuck Hardy as the other declared candidates looking to take over for current mayor Walter Gray.

Shepherd was the mayor for six years before she was ousted by Gray.
