TORONTO – Police are searching a rural area near Barrie as part of their investigation into the 1985 disappearance of Nicole Morin.
Dozens of police officers from the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police are combing an area near Horseshoe Valley Road in Springwater Township.
Morin was eight-years-old when she disappeared from an apartment building at 627 The West Mall in Etobicoke.
Police say she was abducted while walking from her parents’ apartment to meet a friend at the pool around 11 a.m. on July 30, 1985.
Police inspector Gerry Cashman tells Global News they received some tips earlier this year that led to Wednesday’s search.
Cashman said they were told that shortly after the girl’s disappearance, something happened in Springwater which led to concerns.

Police did know about the unidentified event in 1985 and investigated at the time, but didn’t find anything.
Toronto Police made a renewed call for information in July on the 29th anniversary of her disappearance. They said at the time they had spent over 15,000 man hours searching for the young girl.
Police cleared all family members and friends from playing a role in her disappearance.
