VANCOUVER – A team from the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre was called out Monday night to pick up their 157th seal of the year.
Some concerned residents had spotted the young seal earlier in the afternoon and when it appeared she wasn’t moving very much and her mom was nowhere to be found, they called the rescue centre.
A team came out and picked her up later in the evening.
A spokesperson for the Vancouver Aquarium said the team was concerned when they approached the seal and she didn’t take off into the water, which would be a normal response.
She was brought in at about 7:30 p.m. and will be assessed on Wednesday.
If you see a marine mammal in distress you are asked to call the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre at 604-258-SEAL (7325).
